Converse - Still Cool After All These Years

Recently I treated myself to a pair of Converse All Stars in grey with a ‘double tongue’ and before I chose them I did a bit of research to find out about them. I like to know a bit about what I’m buying. I was really surprised to find out that the Converse Rubber Company has actually been in business for over a hundred years, it was originally started in 1908 which sounds like a very long time ago! That’s some heritage.

Having had a pair of Converse Hi Tops as a child (they were red and I loved them and wore them til they no longer fitted me and I was gutted when I had to stop wearing them) it was a wired feeling to be buying another pair more than 20 years later and still loving the shape and the colours and the ranges to choose from. These days these is a huge selection for men, women and kids too (there’s something for infants, kids and juniors) and you can get Hi Tops, Slim, Light, Limited Edition, Ox, even Knee High’s! There are All Stars (the ones associated with the basketball fan Chuck Taylor who worked for Converse and loved the game of basketball), the Star Chevron, with a chevron (obviously) on the side and a star, you can get plain ones, printed ones, ones with stars on, printed words, pictures of Jimi Hendrix or even Debbie Harry. There are suede styles, ones made from jersey material or the original canvas. You can get Converse in every colour imaginable and even ‘split mid’ styles which have a combination of two colours on them, one around the main shoe and another around the Hi Top section. So cool and yet they can look that bit smarter than a standard trainer.

I had a difficult choice choosing my first pair of Converse because there were so many I liked and could have had. I got the grey ones in the end because they go with everything and I liked the colour anyway but I’ve seen some in jersey material which are a marl grey with a bright red chevron and I think I’m going to have to get those soon because I’ve been dreaming about them and I need to have them. I also think I will definitely need some Hi Tops too, so I’m going to get some navy All Stars Hi Tops eventually too then I’ll have a whole bunch to choose from when I get dressed in a morning and can have a different look every day. There is an argument for having lots of different pairs of shoes though because I’ve heard that you shouldn’t ever wear the same pair of shoes two days running (it could be a myth made up by footwear manufacturers to get you to buy lots of pairs of shoes?) but there you go. I will be adhering to that as soon as I get some more great Converse sneakers. Converse
